How to Install Fabric for Minecraft

This guide will show you how to install Fabric for Minecraft.

Fabric Installation

The installation process is quite simple.

First, you will want to head to this page: https://fabricmc.net/use/installer/

After doing this, you will see an option to download Fabric. If you’re on Windows, you will see two options: “Download for Windows,” and “Download universal jar.” Downloading either should work, assuming you have a proper installation of Java on your machine. If you’re using Linux, you should see the same two options, but the big blue button will be “Download installer (Universal/.JAR)” as opposed to “Download for Windows.” We will go with the universal .jar method.

To download the installer, click the “Download universal jar” or “Download installer (Universal/.JAR)” button (depending on which option shows up for you) and run the file. Upon running it, you will find this window:

The Fabric Installer window, with the "Client" tab being selected. It shows the Minecraft version set to 1.19.2, with an unchecked checkbox saying "show snapshots." The loader version is set to "0.14.0", there is an install location text box, and there is a checked "Create profile" checkbox. There is also text below saying "Ready to install" with an "Install" button.

Set the Minecraft version to the version of Minecraft you want to have your Fabric client installed for. The loader version can be the newest version unless you have a specific reason to use an older one. For the install location, press the three dots next to the text box to choose another location if you do not want it inside %appdata%\.minecraft. Finally, make sure “Create profile” is checked so a launcher profile is created for Fabric. Once that is done, click “Install.”

Now with Fabric installed, make sure you get the Fabric API, as many mods depend on them. Download it from the CurseForge page and put it into your mods folder of your installation location (which by default is in %appdata%\.minecraft\mods). If you do not see the mods folder, you may have to run your Fabric client first. Then, you will want to install Mod Menu, as it is used by the majority of mods to customize and configure them.

Congratulations! You now have Fabric installed. Thanks for reading!
