Acer Nitro 5 Screen Gets Dark With Dark Content on Screen

I have had this problem with my Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 gaming laptop (which I also had with my Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54 51M5 gaming laptop) where my screen gets dim with darker content on the screen and gets brighter again when the screen content is mostly bright. This problem was not only extremely annoying, but even infuriating. I tried installing the Intel Graphics Command Center and disabling the Power Saving modes, but nothing worked. I finally found the solution!

Solution

Launch the Registry Editor
Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Try going into the “0001” branch, although it may be in 0000
Find the value FeatureTestControl
Open the Windows Calculator and go into Programmer Mode
Switch to Hexadecimal Entry and enter the value seen for FeatureTestControl. For instance, if the value is c200, then put in c200.
Select the binary value and copy it, then paste it into a text editor or a place in which you can modify the text
Modify the fifth-to-last bit in your text editor. For instance, 110000100000000 would become 1100001000010000.
Copy the modified binary value, clear the Windows Calculator entry, and paste in your new binary entry
Switch back to Hexadecimal Entry Mode and enter the value seen there into the Registry Editor value for FeatureTestControl
